Intellergy is a California Corporation that has developed a leading edge “renewable energy” technology and has customers poised to deploy our systems. Intellergy Corporation provides an innovative “Steam/CO2 Reforming” process that converts organic feedstock into renewable products and energy. The technology can convert materials such as paper, plastics, biomass (greenwaste, agricultural wastes, forest wastes, and animal manures), municipal solid wastes (MSW), wastewater treatment plant solids (biosolids), and medical waste, into sustainable products without combustion. Its proven patented technology processes organic materials into a high-grade syngas, which then can be used to produce renewable energy products, including sulfur and nitrogen-free Fischer-Tropsch products, such as liquid fuels including diesel, middle distillate, mixed alcohols, jet fuel and paraffin products, electricity (via fuels cells, turbines, or CAT syngas engines), and renewable hydrogen.
The Intellergy system combines the best overall economic and environmental benefits for waste generators and processors, while offering the most favorable economics. The technology offers a solution that eliminates negative environmental impacts, and offers a sustainable alternative to incineration and landfilling of organic materials. Since Intellergy facilities operate without combustion, they do not emit problem air emissions or pollutants, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, Intellergy facilities do not require discharge or contaminated water discharges that eliminates potential water quality impacts. Both of these factors reduce the environmental impacts of Intellergy facilities and thereby reducing permitting issues associated with the facility.
Intellergy is currently working with Siemens Automation to provided system controls and potentially fuel cells for the production of electricity. Siemens has been instrumental in providing Intellergy with state of the art controls, equipment fabricators and potential customers.
Intellergy's patented system combines proven technologies that have been in use successfully for decades to produce energy and eco-products through conversion of carbon based fuels. Intellergy has made patentable improvements to previous small-scale steam processes through modern chemical engineering, metallurgy, and materials handling technologies. Intellergy’s patented process has been named Steam/CO2 Reforming because CO2 is re-circulated in its process to reduce greenhouse gases and increase syngas production. It also produces the highest hydrogen content and cleanest, tar-free syngas in the industry.
Intellergy's application of Steam/CO2 Reforming is unique in that there is:
• No combustion—digesters and incinerators require combustion which releases CO
2 and other pollutants to the atmosphere.
• No pressure and no oxygen—contents are not under pressure, making the process safer, and the process does not consume oxygen.
• No flame and no steam reforming catalyst—no risk of combustion, or poisoning of catalysts by problem waste streams.
• Produces no problematic waste stream to dispose of unlike other technologies.
• A slate of green products—the Intellergy system produces a wide array of renewable products, such as electricity, liquid fuels, hydrogen, and thermal energy.
• Works with various feedstocks—the Steam/CO2 Reforming system is relatively indifferent to the type of waste feedstock and its moisture content.
Organic feedstocks are converted into a hydrogen-rich synthetic gas ("syngas") that can be used to produce liquid fuels utilizing a small-scale Fischer-Tropsch and to drive electric generators (fuel cells, turbines, CAT syngas engines). The syngas can also be further processed to produce pure hydrogen that can be used as a transportation fuel or industrial uses.
Intellergy’s objective is to establish its technology as the most effective, economic and environmentally sensitive method to produce clean energy and other eco-products from sources such as municipal waste, wastewater treatment plants, hospitals and clinics (medical waste), food processors, agricultural waste producers and other producers of organic wastes. There is a global demand for clean renewable energy and the Intellergy patented technology offers a sustainable solution for the planet.
Intellergy is initially focusing its efforts on several potential industries and the organic waste that they produce or manage. The organic wastes on which Intellergy is concentrating include municipal solid waste, wastewater biosolids and medical waste. These wastes total approximately 293 million tons annually. A majority of these wastes are placed in a landfill or incinerated at a cost of approximately $12.3 billion annually.
